PRESERVING THE FUTURE:
January’s Volunteer of the Month 2010

Tybee Island Light Station

Would you like to host a day’s outing at the World’s Fair for 550 school children and many of their parents? Our volunteer of the month did just that when she was the principal of an elementary school in Cobb County, Georgia.

Meet Carolyn Jurick, the Tybee Island Light Station Volunteer of the Month. Carolyn’s latest project was supervising 37 students at St. Michael’s School, teaching them how to make 1930s style Christmas ornaments for the tree in the Head Keeper’s Cottage. She also prepared lunches for the students and brought them to the tree trimming party. She wasn’t even breathing hard when the tree had been beautifully and creatively decorated and the students had finished their lunches.

Carolyn’s approach to any request is one of quiet confidence. She instinctively knows what is needed and proceeds to make it happen. At the Light Station her well developed people skills and her warm sunny personality welcome one and all and make all of our guests feel truly welcome.

We thank her so much for all she does for the Tybee Island Light Station.
