These are some photo highlights of the afternoon media event held at what was formerly known as Disney’s “Miley Movie” Chapel on Tybee Island on February 12th, 2010. Tybee’s Stacye Jarrell has been given the structure and is making plans move it to a lot on Hwy. 80 East and transform it into an elegant wedding facility…. The project has captured the interest of the public, as well as a number of local and regional dignitaries, and despite the threat of ‘snow’ and generally miserable weather (at least for Tybee), local media came out and were very attentive.

These shots taken by Tybee Times staff/freelance photographer Nancy Heffernan are of the interior of the building set up for the occasion as if a real wedding were taking place. The gentleman doing the stand-up interview is Bill Thompson, Deputy Commissioner of film, music & entertainment for the State of Georgia. The “Brides” pictured with Stacye Jarrell are Natalie Gordon, Sundi Marino, Carey Anderson and Jamie Webb. Tybee’s Mayor Jason Buelterman is also there – he’s the one kissing the brides.

Letter from Stacye Jarrell – Tybee “Wedding” Chapel; Feb. 12th Media Event

It’s amazing, the amount of enthusiasm and support that’s building for The Tybee “Wedding” Chapel!  Many folks from across the state are even getting excited about Tybee’s new project!

First of all, please allow us to apologize for “the fence.”  We did not want to block anyone’s chance to walk up to the chapel, however, since the building is not to code that was the only way we could get liability insurance so that we can begin the process of moving the building.  The good news is that we are getting closer to the move. Many observers do not understand that the roof will have to be removed and each piece stored, numbered and labeled so that the beautiful beams and tongue and groove ceiling will go back piece by piece in its original location.  The roof has to be removed so that we do not damage the power lines during the relocation.  Our fellow islanders do not want to be without power!

We’ve been asked to plan a “media event” for February 12th.  The purpose is to get attention for Tybee Island on a state wide level.  Lannie and I were more than willing to do the work to get ready.  It is tremendously important to Tybee Island that we get the positive publicity that our island deserves.  Tybee and its citizens are special and we need to be recognized for our island’s beauty and unique qualities that make this piece of paradise our home.

The request to organize this event was from a member of the House of Representatives who thought that our island’s desire to work together to get out of this recession was a wonderful concept.  In particular, he wanted to support and encourage Tybee’s goal of becoming a wedding destination.  Lannie and I remain focused on working with everyone on Tybee to achieve this goal. The financial impact of this will affect every person and every business on Tybee Island.

If you attend the media event and are not allowed to conveniently enter the chapel please know this was for everyone’s safety.  Please remember the building is not to code and we are fortunate to be allowed to have an event inside – the building is also restricted to allow only 23 guests inside at a time, but City Staff will be present to allow everyone an opportunity to view the building before construction.  We also appreciate the City’s willingness to work with us on this event.
They are more than kind to take time from their busy schedules to ensure our safety.

Again, thank you for your support!
