The time has come again for the teens to take to the kitchen and test their creative cooking abilities.  Over the past three Tybee Teen Cuisine sessions the young chefs have learned various cooking and styles and fare.  This 8 week session our chefs will be put to the Teen Cuisine Challenge as they cook and create dishes to satisfy the week’s Cuisine Challenge.
On March 24, 2010 the chef’s of the Teen Cuisine along with Hillary, Haley and Susan were challenged with the “Xtreme Cake Creation Challenge.”  Armed with angle food cake, pound cake, frosting, candy, pretzels, brownies and an hour and 15 minutes, the challenge was on for the group.  Each team eagerly set to making their creations.  Teamwork and communication, creativity and resourcefulness set the tone of the challenge as each team made their “Xtreme Cake.”  Our guest judge Kathleen Pyrch interviewed each team and asked questions to better understand the approaches and creative design for the cakes.  Using a unique and YMCA approach to the judging process, she continued on with the YMCA’s motto, “everyone plays and everyone wins,” and we all won big with our Xtreme cakes.

Our winners were:

Category—Best use of Melted Blue Icing
Team Four:  Paige Avinger and Jordan
“The Hot Yacht”
Category—Too Cute to Eat
Team One:  Caitlyn Avinger and Hannah
