Meet Noah Mosely

This summer for the first time in a long time, the beach has been filled with more young surfers.  A lot of the credit for this should be given to the Tybee Island YMCA Surf Camp run by Jimmy Manning and Atsushi Yamada along with many volunteers this summer.

Noah Mosely is our surfer of the month.  Noah is actually a Tybee Island resident.  He is ten years old and attends Bible Baptist School where he is in the 4th grade.

Noah started surfing last year at nine years of age.  On any given afternoon since school has started, you can see Noah out catching and riding waves. Watching Noah is so much fun because for one so young he has realized how to choose the best wave and ride down the line.  This is the key to becoming a really good surfer and winning contests.

Speaking of contests, Noah has been winning the Menehune age division in the GA Eastern Surfing Association.  In the first and the second contests, he came in 1st in the Menehune Shortboard and Longboard divisions.  He told me he really likes to win.  Noah also says that he likes to surf with his brother, Michael.  His favorite place to surf is Cocoa Beach.  He told me that he would like to travel to Puerto Rico someday to surf.  He likes surfing because it is fun.

I always ask the surfers to tell me what they feel it special about surfing at Tybee.  Noah agrees with other surfers that Tybee is a fun surf place because of friends and it is like “a big family.”

When Noah isn’t doing homework or surfing, you can find him skateboarding at his house.  Like our girl grom last month, Georgia Cook, remember Noah Mosely’s name because in the future if he sticks with surfing you will see him bringing home many awards to Tybee Island, Georgia.

Until next month,

Jackie
