August 2010
Heading into the last days of summer now and the heat is still on. Good news is the beaches are crowded and business has been good on Tybee, although the economy is still limping along as we head into Labor Day.
Tybee Throws a Fit returns that weekend, along with the Labor Day Bash on the pier. Tybee Beautification will host an Adopt a Hwy clean-up the weekend before.
As you will read in this edition, there’s still no official word from the City on the issue confronting them concerning the Grevemberg lawsuit, or the fate of the Tybee Police Officers and suspended Police Chief, Jimmy Price. Again, we’re told things should be wrapping up any day now. Hope so, as the community is also anxious for closure. Thankfully, under Lt. Bob Bryson, Tybee’s acting Chief, the current force is standing tall under the pressure with help from other law enforcement agencies… Meanwhile, the tasing case has been moved to Federal Court.
We’d like to express condolences to the families and friends of Jeanne Buttimer and Carl Conway, and wish our beloved “Miss Sylvia” Gott a speedy recovery. There’s a fundraiser on to purchase a chair lift for her – donations may be made at many local establishments and the Tybee Arts website.
Thanks for reading!
