Tybee Island officials OK purchase of sand for new dunes – WTOC.com

Tybee Island, GA: Tybee Island officials agreed this week to purchase some 9,000 cubic yards of sand in an effort to shore up the city’s defensive dune system. The vote by the Tybee City Council during a special called meeting Tuesday afternoon will result in a cost to the city of about $100,000, but island officials say it’s worth the expense to safeguard the areas most vulnerable to storm surge during hurricanes and other tropical storms…
