Coming Sunday, April 25th – 5:00pm:
Annual Tribute to Duke Ellington on Sunday, April 25th.  This event will be celebrating the legacy left by one of America’s greatest musicians/composers for what would have been his 111th birthday (born April 29, 1899).

This will be CJA’s 24th year playing tribute to Mr. Ellington.

The “guest artist” which is a feature of this annual event, will be Multi Instrumentalist, Longineu Parsons.  Mr. Parsons has been hailed by critics as one of the world’s finest trumpet players. He is also a master of recorders, flute, percussion, and sings. His music crosses genres and defies classification. It’s jazz, it’s funk, it’s blues, it’s classic, it’s urban, it’s world fusion, but most of all, it’s all good.

Those attending the concert will also enjoy the vocals of Priscilla Albergottie-Williams, who is the Savannah Jazz Orchestra’s featured vocalist. Ms. Albergottie-Williams has performed both church and secular music in superb equilibrium. She has performed with trombonist, Teddy Adams, for years and was the featured vocalist with the Savannah Jazz Orchestra. She can be heard on SJO: live recording “Satin Doll” – featuring the music of Duke Ellington and Johnny Mercer.

The concert is free and open to the public and is presented by The Coastal Jazz Association of Savannah through a generous grant from the City of Savannah.

Because of the tremendous contributions that Stubby Mitchell and Isadore Karpf have made to jazz in the Coastal Empire, this concert is dedicated to them.  CJA graciously acknowledges their generous contributions and unending support of the arts in Savannah.

Hotlanta Dixieland Jazz has done six international concert tours including performances in Finland, Russia, Denmark, France, Germany, Belgium, Belarus, Spain, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Mexico, and Japan.

Hotlanta performances include The Piccolo Spoleto Festival, Charleston, SC; The Famous Door on Bourbon Street, New Orleans; The Brevard College Jazz Festival, NC; The Franklin Jazz Festival, Franklin,TN; a nine state, 23 concert Mid-West tour; the Bessie Smith Strut at the RiverBend Festival, Chattanooga, TN; City Stages Music Festival, Birmingham, AL; The Jazz Corner, Hilton Head, SC; and The Sun Coast Jazz Club, Tampa, FL.

Some of the group’s highlights include numerous performances for the International Olympic Committee of the 1996 Summer Centennial Olympics, Atlanta, GA….guest soloist with the Dekalb Symphony Orchestra in Atlanta….three Caribbean Jazz cruises for Commodore Cruise Lines out of New Orleans aboard the S.S. Enchanted Seas… performance on the NBC-TV mini series “Grass Roots” the featured American band at the world’s largest Dixieland festival, International Festival Dresden in Dresden, Germany….and performance at the 2007 Georgia Governor’s Ball.

Grab Your Honey-Pie and Listen to Some Sweet Jazz with the
SAVANNAH STOMPERS JAZZ BAND

Kiss!  Kiss!  Kiss!   It’s time again for saying those three little words… “I love you!”  But this time say it with food, wine and JAZZ.  And even better yet, with the Savannah Stompers Jazz Band: Savannah’s premier good time band.

Recently Disney Studios contacted the SSJB and told them: “We saw your website and like your sound and looks -and would like you to perform some tunes and be filmed for the new Miley Cyrus movie, The Last Song”.   Subsequently, SSJB had 7 tunes recorded to Disney specifications for consideration for the film.

The SSJB was formed in 1995.  Their propensity for traditional jazz music, ranging from New Orleans, Chicago and Memphis to the West Coast Revival movement of the late ‘30’s and early ‘40’s, found an immediate fan base. The SSJB members are from varied walks of life, including a practicing architect, a pharmaceutical sales rep, and a Savannah School District band director.

So if you decide to catch the Cyrus film, look hard at the wedding reception scene. You might catch a glimpse of 7 happy go lucky jazz players (unless they wind up “on the cutting room floor).

In the meantime, come enjoyed Valentine’s Evening with some great traditional jazz with the Savannah Stompers Jazz Band.
