America’s “Healthiest Beach” One Year Later – Celebrities on Tybee!
Lisa Wu and Ed Hartwell Pay a Visit…
Hosted by Oceanfront Cottages ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ Lisa Wu Hartwell and her husband Ed visited Tybee in May, escaping their hectic schedules in Atlanta where they’re shooting season 3 of the Real Housewives, movies and Ed’s calendar project). While staying at one of Oceanfront Cottage Rentals homes, they found time to work out together, run on the beach and do some jet skiing. (On the Left)
Mughelli Pays a Visit to Tybee…
OVIE MUGHELLI Foundation,“Our Future is Green!”
Atlanta Falcons’ fullback Ovie Mughelli recently visited Tybee and vacationed at one of Oceanfront Cottage Rentals exclusive island homes.
Atlanta’s #1 Eco-Athlete and founder of the Ovie Mughelli Foundation says he had no idea there was so much beauty and tranquility off the Georgia Coast such a short drive from his home in Atlanta.
In May, Mughelli teamed up with Stacye Jarrell for an eco-conscious press conference to help raise awareness of the importance of preserving coastal areas like Tybee Island. Pictured above are Lannie and Stacye Jarrell, Ovie Mughelli and Tybee City Councilman, Paul Wolff.
The idea is to teach children and their parents about buying locally grown organic foods, recycling, reducing the use of gasoline-powered motorized vehicles and leaving less of a mark on the environment.

“Tybee Throws a Fit“ was sponsored by zoelifestyle.com to pump up attendees on July 2nd at The Tybee Island Pier and the north beach side from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

Last Song “Flip Flop” Gala
Here on Tybee – The Last Song “Flip-Flop” Gala Delights Locals!
Report by Susan Kelleher

“The Last Song” pre-movie party was a huge success, the volunteers did a great job with only minimal training, Randy Smith provided fabulous music, the crowd really enjoyed themselves a lot. Shelly Ainsworth and Tina Gann, who represented the Marine Science Center rounded up all of the volunteers, and did a wonderful job of planning and organizing them.
Everything came together well, even though we had a couple glitches, mostly with our parking people who could not come at the last minute, but the Tybee police stepped up to the plate and helped with everything outside. Thanks to April at City hall for making sure issues at Memorial Park were taken care of, it seemed like everyone found a place to park and there were no complaints that I heard.
We have raised a good bit of money for the Marine science Center, which will be presented to them at the turtle trot. Diane Kaufman really worked with the producers and publicists of the movie and was instrumental in getting the t-shirts, posters, the beautiful signed poster that Debbie Robinson framed, and most importantly, the check from the Cyrus’. Linda Witbeck did a fabulous job of marketing for us, and Judy Ouzts from Papas was absolutely right on with the food and drinks. She was able to get it all donated, which is quite something.
Her people did an outstanding job with serving and cleanup, it went so well. The food was all easy, simple, but delicious! There was nothing left – Judy planned it pretty good. Brucie Westerman represented The Chapel on Tybee, and she was one of our main worker bees in getting a lot of behind the scenes stuff donated and transported to the gym. Unfortunately, the chapel building has not been moved yet, so the planned drive by did not happen, but didn’t it look good in the movie?? Wow!
The ride to the movie on the trolleys was a hoot. Our guy Brett at the theater directed traffic, herded everyone into their seats, and made sure his team served popcorn and drinks with a smile. All had such a wonderful time, lots of tears, and all very happy. The movie was all we wanted, with the exception of a few scenes we would have liked to see more of, and Tybee mentioned by name a little more, but with Miley Cyrus in it, we will be known for sure. The ride home back to our island was capped with one of the most beautiful orange moons rising over the marsh and oceans I have ever seen. What a magical night! (See The Tybee Times photos by Nancy Heffernan in gallery below.)
Eric and Heather at Huc-A-Poos had a blast of an after party! The awards they presented, the music of Joni Woodcock was hilarious, their slide show, decorations, all went so well. I left at midnight and the party was still going strong. All in all, we had many congratulations and good comments, from loads of folks who went. Our team thinks it was the party of the year! We are still in the process of tallying up the money to donate, and sending out thank you’s, but for now we are taking a few breaths. I plan on going again a few more times to see the movie. After this one, we know how to have a premiere party, and will be waiting for the next film crew to arrive on Tybee!
Last Song – Stacye and Lannie Jarrell
TYBEE’S “WEDDING CHAPEL” COUPLE ATTEND SHOWING OF “THE LAST SONG” IN ATLANTA

Stacye and Lannie Jarrell at Atlanta Showing of "The Last Song," by Chris Hornaday, (with permission, copyright 2010)
Lannie and Stacye Jarrell recently had the pleasure of attending an early showing of Disney’s “The Last Song” in Atlanta, and were asked to give a “Tybee-style” accounting of the movie and the island to the anxious audience prior to the show. Here’s what happened that night in Stacye Jarrell’s own words:
“Lannie and I were very excited when our publicist, Toren Anderson, called and told us that we had been invited by Disney to an early premiere in Atlanta to see “The Last Song” on Wednesday, on March 24th. We drove to Atlanta hoping to see Tybee Island looking beautiful.
Prior to the screening we were asked to introduce ourselves and speak on behalf of Tybee Island. Toren gave a brief explanation as to where Tybee Island is located and how quick and easy the drive is. We also were able to discuss how fortunate we are that the movie was filmed in Georgia and not in North Carolina. The room was about 90 per-cent full of media and excited young movie goers, many who stood up and told us how much they loved Tybee. Together, we all anticipated viewing the scenes just so we could ‘spot something, Tybee.’
“The Last Song” was an excellent movie! In fact, we enjoyed the story line and actors so much that sometimes we forgot to look for all of the “Tybee details.” Miley Cyrus was excellent, Greg Kinnear was wonderful and naturally, Liam Helmsworth, (but the star of the show was Bobby Soleman who played Miley’s younger brother). Even my husband commented on how much he enjoyed the story line and individual performances. (He even posed with me in front of the poster above!) Tybee looked amazing! Wormsloe was also gorgeous and our entire area photographed beautifully.
At the end of the movie we just sat and watched everyone leave – the younger viewers were singing the theme song as they exited the theater. I could just imagine these happy movie goers all going back to watch the movie with other friends this coming weekend.
We were truly glad to have been able to go and enjoy this experience in Atlanta and can only hope that each of you enjoy the movie and Tybee’s photography as much as we did – it will be playing in local theater’s for several weeks.
The Chapel looks fabulous, too!”
