Tybee Times: Breaking News!

Press Release – Friday, June 10th, 2010:

Local sources on Tybee Island have confirmed that Tybee Police Chief, Jimmy Price has been suspended with pay as of June 9th.

City Manager Diane Schleicher took this action after a recent incident on May 21st during “Beach Bum” weekend that involved the “tasing” and the arrest of autistic 18 year old, Clifford Grevemberg by Tybee police officers outside of the Rock House on Tybrisa Street.

As of Thursday, June 10th, a total of four T.I.P.D. officers had also resigned over the incident.

An independent GBI investigation into the arrest has been ordered, but the results are still pending.

Price’s supporters rallied in his defense outside City Hall on Thursday evening, June 10th passing out stickers that read, “Price is Right,” but were informed that Council had not planned for the matter to be on the agenda that evening.  The chief’s upporters did however have an opportunity to speak to members of the press in favor of his reinstatement..

Council will take up the matter of the Chief’s suspension and what if any other measures will be taken on June 24th.

Stay tuned for more ….

  1. I have always wondered why law enforcement gets paid if they are suspended..that makes it a tax payer funded vacation. He either was way out of line in the way it was handled or he wasn’t. See ya on the water Jimmy.

Chief Price is a man with a great deal of integrity, knowledge and level headedness. Chief Price has been the target of a certain few individuals in our City Government for quite some time now. These folks are now determined that he is to be the fall guy for this unfortunate incident.

Chief Price should be and hopefully will be exonerrated and re-installed in his position as the Chief of Police of our wonderful little island.

Maybe the coucil and its leaders should be suspended for the mugger mentality they have brought to our island.

God bless the family of the young man involved in this incident, hopefully they have learned that, possibly, they too share some responsibility for what has happened to their loved one. The young man should not have been left alone in that atmosphere.
