Georgia Environmental Finance Authority to hold public meeting on Tybee concerning Cretaceous aquifer project –

The Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) hereby gives notice that it will hold a public meeting on May 27, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. in the Tybee Island Courtroom/Council Chambers, 78 Van Horne St, Tybee Island, GA 31328.

GEFA is embarking on a demonstration project to explore the technical, environmental, and cost implications of installing a deep well in the Cretaceous aquifer as an alternative to the Floridan aquifer for Georgia’s coastal region. The demonstration project is limited to a short-term test.

The purposes of the public meeting are to:

1.) Inform the public of the proposed demonstration project, which includes an aquifer production test that will result in a temporary discharge of pumped groundwater into the Atlantic Ocean near the mouth of the Savannah River via an existing outfall structure.

2.) Provide for public feedback and comments regarding the demonstration project.

3.) Comply with Section 391-3-6-.02 of Georgia’s Water Quality Control Rules (and amendments thereto).

Public participation is essential to developing the final plan prior to its consideration by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. For more information on the demonstration project prior to the public meeting, please contact Gigi Steele with the Georgia Environmental Protection Division at 404-463-4949.
