Local Leaders to Discuss Senior Hunger – TheTybeeTimes.net

March 6, 2017

Local Community Partners in the Coastal Region will discuss senior hunger and ways to combat it during a regional listening session on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, 10:00AM to Noon at the Coastal Regional Commission Area Agency on Aging. Older adults and caregivers will join elected officials, business owners, faith leaders, and others to examine the challenges that lead to senior hunger and explore solutions to overcome them.

“Addressing food insecurity now will help agencies who serve older adults plan for the future,” said, Loreatha Jenkins, Wellness Program Manager of the Coastal AAA.

The event in Darien is one of to be held throughout Georgia this spring. The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) will incorporate the feedback into a State Plan on Senior Hunger, the first of its kind for Georgia. The comprehensive plan will serve as a roadmap for State and local agencies, nonprofits, and community organizations as they work to eliminate food insecurity among older Georgians.
